Transactive Incentive Signals to Manage Energy Consumption (TIME): The System- and Market-Based Transactive Load Management (TLM)
Transactive load management uses demand response, control technologies, and communications with end-user devices to manage flexible energy flows in the grid. Drawing on quantitative and qualitative analyses from experts, this report proposes the design of a grid-integrated transactive load management signaling framework and deployment techniques.
This report details functional and communication requirements for demand-responsive electric vehicle service equipment, thermostats, water heaters, and pool pumps to enable coordinated control of these devices. It examines how such loads can enable substantially higher penetration of solar generation while still meeting consumer expectations.
