Recent research suggests that the presence of lead can be linked to stress corrosion cracking of steam generator tubing in nuclear plants. In this study, EPRI investigated the conditions of a plant’s secondary water in which tubing materials are susceptible to lead-related stress corrosion cracking.
In-plane fluid elastic instability is a type of vibration induced by flows in tube bundles of nuclear plant steam generators. It has resulted in unstable displacements of the bundles. This research examines parameters and configurations that make the tubes more susceptible to onset of this vibration.
In this study, EPRI and Normandeau Associates developed a hardware/software system that assesses risk of bat mortality at wind turbines based on real-time bat activity and weather data. The system curtails turbine operations when the mortality risk is high. The study evaluated the ability of the system to reduce bat mortality at We Energies’ Wisconsin Blue Sky Green Field wind power facility.
These field tests investigated the effect of changes in combustion conditions and operation of selective catalytic reduction systems on flue gas emissions from a coal-fired boiler.
With more power plant cycling, it has become increasingly important to identify effective, economical methods to remove moisture from low-pressure steam turbines for short- and intermediate-duration layups. This study conceptualized and examined a new approach for turbine moisture removal.
This study examined corrosion rates of carbon steel and a copper alloy under simulated power plant feedwater conditions after application of various commercial filming products.
The reactor pressure vessel is the only nonreplaceable component in a nuclear plant, and maintaining its integrity is essential for safe operations. Plant personnel can use this primer to understand the technical issues and strategies needed to manage the vessel’s integrity and embrittlement. It also explains the relevant regulations.
This report is a market survey of low-cost, easy-to-install, wireless sensors for point-of-use power measurements.
This study, accepted by the journal Climate Change Economics, examines the U.S. government’s modeling approach for the social cost of carbon (a monetary estimate of global climate change damages to society from an additional unit of carbon dioxide emissions).
This report describes the state of data management typical of most distribution utilities today and summarizes research by EPRI and a major distribution utility on how to improve data management.
This research assessed control systems and modeled economics at four utility-scale energy storage sites. At a fifth site, researchers installed an energy storage system; modeled the feeder to align commissioning with system capabilities, and documented lessons from the installation.
This software predicts residential solar adoption for a utility service territory under various market conditions.
