This review of the scientific literature characterized the designs of proposed concepts for molten salt nuclear reactors and the material degradation processes associated with each design.
As many U.S. nuclear plants enter extended operations, radiation damage is a critical concern. This research investigates the ability of a nondestructive evaluation technique called nonlinear ultrasound to characterize radiation damage in reactor pressure vessel steels over a range of fluence levels (a measure of neutron exposure), irradiation temperatures, and material composition.
