Control of Corrosion in the Steam Turbine Phase Transition Zone Using Film-Forming Products
This first-of-its-kind field study investigated the use of film-forming products to reduce off-line corrosion in a steam turbine’s phase transition zone. Researchers exposed carbon and stainless steel specimens to low-pressure steam from a feedwater heater on a supercritical unit. Contaminants and various film-forming products were injected into the steam.

With more power plant cycling, it has become increasingly important to identify effective, economical methods to remove moisture from low-pressure steam turbines for short- and intermediate-duration layups. This study conceptualized and examined a new approach for turbine moisture removal.
