Large Rotors for Wind Turbines: Benefits and Challenges
Larger rotor blades in wind turbines are decreasing energy generation costs, but also come with challenges, such as transportation, manufacturability, and reliability. This report provides cost-benefit analyses for increasing rotor size in onshore and offshore turbines and evaluates various approaches to overcome these challenges, including use of alternative materials, innovative manufacturing processes, and blade segmentation.
